The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 越拍越好，校园那段前半部分拍得太差了，后面各种画面剪辑配乐旁白意象突然上线，甚至让我感觉不是同一个人拍的

女主最后其实是想问爱没爱过她吧，这种话简直是最后的尊严了，这片儿很普通
譚sir的學生的作品，香港新生代女性導演未來可期。但真的，後面一小時一直快進。
不喜欢这样的设定，拍的很没有创新和创新，基本讲这样题材的女性电影都会这么拍，所有的水准都是很一般的水准，演技又不在线，青春不青春，社会不社会，都是表达了一个表面的现象，拍成这样应该更多的是满足导演的个人喜好吧…
何必糾結誰比誰更渣，不過是彼此相愛、互相折磨，換取一份“記得”。

“我很想写一封悔过书，悔过自己曾经写过一封这样的悔过书。”如果一部电影能成就并留下一个经典画面，也很优秀，比如那个记录青春无惧的“勇”，纵是热血冲动，也只能是那个年纪独有的。

很小清新，有些恋爱的细节部分和镜头处理得挺好的，就是这剧情发展和强行be有些说不过去。最后我是绞尽脑汁想了一个理由，就是短发女生那次悔过书深深伤害了长发女生所以一直无法原谅，最后只有沦为亲人。但是最后这婚礼上望眼欲穿又着实让人不解，嗐。
kissing in the rain的一幕太美好了。
作为HK来说，这部片子被同类型掩盖了光彩。作为同性爱来说，有点点留痕。只是还是有太多的照搬。
如果这件事发生在我身上一定老死不相往来。老演员们看着好熟悉，好喜欢。我想表白孩子她妈妈。😅 这个“很不真实”的结局，是想消失的人知道，坚持从事电影业的自己，仍然爱她，不管她怎样了。
