The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 怪不得北野武这么喜欢踢踏舞，总是和我所知的北野武有些违和
全片只发生在一间小小的裁缝店，但仍不掩剧情的精彩和刺激的反转，布景、灯光、摄影都极其讲究。马克·里朗斯一人的演技撑住全场，“文斗”黑帮戏份过瘾，最近难得的高质量悬疑片
摇摇欲坠但最终不露破绽，各种穿插小标题讨巧又讨喜，小场景又一佳作诞生。would it help 大哥表现可圈可点，唯独最后的匪气不足。
偏古典风格的推理悬疑，当然还有犯罪。
我有预感这部电影将会被国内翻拍，或者改成舞台剧全国巡演……
和看梅艳芳的感觉一样，再多演绎都比不上本人一帧。比不上他拿破锣嗓子唱一句。啊，老头儿要过生日了。
有点小失望，说不上来期待什么，但总觉得会有所惊喜，于是期待到最后也没有等到想象中的惊喜，但仔细一想好像故事也称得上精彩，演技算得上精湛，或许是自己的胃口早已经被快节奏重反转的故事给喂刁了。不过作为单一场景下，只有几个演员飙戏构成的故事结构，还挺不错的，挺适合国内翻拍。
反转就是叙述的诡计，开局一间房，反转都靠嘴。还是有些单薄，属于看过了就看过了，留不下一点印象和想法的片
小成本电影 出场角色不多颇有舞台感 黑帮情仇 多方角力都在小空间里完成 完成度还挺高。
上一套已是五年前 那条裤子已经穿不进 甚至香港的那家定制店已经拆伙很久了。。。
看完全片后，再去看开头的旁白，觉得台词或多或少都带有了一点隐喻……西装由四种面料组成，片子的人物由四部分组成；做西装前的测量不是那么简单的事，嗯不是那么简单……
感觉又被豆瓣分数骗了。看这片子，让我不由得想起克里斯托弗诺兰，盗梦空间，致命魔术。都是我十分不喜欢的类型，故弄玄虚。用姜文的话说，就是卖大力丸的，抻练半天，啥东西没有，而且主角的三观都有严重的问题。原以为只有英国人才这么无聊，看了下导演居然是美国人。但喜欢诺兰的倒可以看看。真真不是我的菜。
哭了，是我最爱的师徒关系，影帝和大泉洋都演得很好，尤其影帝，又第1001次爱上北野武。师父对阿武说，如果车费有找零，记得回来还我。不要被人笑，要逗人笑。师父对观众说，不要给他鼓掌，他演得这么烂你这样只会害了他。师父说，我是谐星。
但是剧情真是…看的时候紧张刺激
